Lithium thionyl chloride primary cells

Lithium thionyl chloride cells (SOCl2) consist of a metallic lithium anode and a liquid cathode made of a porous carbon current collector filled with thionyl chloride. They deliver a voltage of 3.6 V and are mainly available in cylindrical form. The sizes range from 1/2 AA to DD. With spiral electrodes, they are particularly suitable for power applications and as bobbin types as a support for long and constant discharge. Lithium thionyl chloride batteries are primary batteries with the highest voltage, energy density, longest shelf life and lowest self-discharge currently available. These batteries are ideal for long-life applications such as electricity, water and gas meters, heat cost allocators, GPS systems, emergency systems and as a backup power source for memory ICs.
