Transient Voltage Suppressor Diodes et les Diodes de direction sont des composants de protection à base de silicium.
Etant donnés leur temps de réponse très court et leur limitation de tension exacte, elles conviennent très bien pour la protection des semiconducteurs.
De même, la faible capacité de ces composants permet la protection des lignes de transmission de données à grande vitesse comme Ethernet. Leur petit boîtier représente un gain de place sur le circuit imprimé.
